Listen to music offline

Take your music and podcasts with you anywhere you don't have internet.

  • With Premium you can download albums, playlists, and podcasts.
  • You can download podcasts with Spotify Free.

Note: Some podcasts contain video clips, but you can only download the audio.

You can download up to 10,000 songs each on a maximum of 5 different devices.

Note: To ensure that your downloads are not deleted, you have to go online at least once every 30 days. This allows Spotify to track how often songs are played in order to reward artists.

How to download content

  1. Go online and find the content you want to download.
    Note: You cannot download songs individually. Put them together in a playlist and then download that.
  2. To download, tap .
    Activate on Android devices Download.

A green arrow indicates that the download is complete.

Downloads are in your Library saved.

Reduce mobile data usage

By default, you need a WiFi connection to download. This means that no mobile data is used to download content.

However, you can activate downloading via mobile data:

  1. Tap begin.
  2. Tap on "Settings" .
  3. Tap Sound quality.
  4. Activate under Download the option Download via mobile network .

Tip: We recommend downloading via WiFi. This is how you avoid costs for mobile data.

Note: You can only download playlists in the desktop app.

  1. Go online and find the playlist you want to download.
  2. Activate Download.

Downloads are in your Library saved.

Activate offline mode

Downloads will play automatically when you lose your internet connection. However, you can enable offline mode to ensure that only your downloads are played.

  1. Tap begin.
  2. Tap on "Settings" .
  3. Tap reproduction.
  4. Activate the option Offline.

Any content that you haven't downloaded will be grayed out and unavailable.

  1. Open Spotify.
  2. For Mac: At the top of the screen, click in the Apple menu Spotify
    For Windows: Click in the Windows menu at the top of the screen file.
  3. Choose Offline mode out.

The download doesn't work?

Make sure the device is ready to download:

  • Check if the device is in sleep mode.
  • Check if you are connected to the internet.
  • Make sure you have enough storage space.
    Tip: We recommend at least 1 GB of free space.

Downloads cannot be played?

Check the download status next to the song or playlist:

Restart the app.

You can also enable offline mode to make sure that attempts to connect to the internet aren't hindering the process.

Read the “The download doesn't work?” Section.

If that doesn't help, reinstall the app.

Note: After reinstalling the app, you'll need to download your music again.

Downloads were removed?

Your downloads can be removed under the following circumstances:

  • If you don't get online at least once every 30 days.
  • When you reinstall the app.
  • If you download content on more than 5 devices.
    Note: Downloads will be deleted from the device that you haven't used for the longest time.

If these cases do not apply, make sure that the downloads can be saved on your device:

  • Make sure your Spotify app is up to date.
  • If your device has an SD card, make sure it's working properly.
